It\u2019s a fantastic way to <b>aprender la cultura<\/b> <i>(<\/i><b><i>learn about the culture<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i> of the different countries around the world, and also a fantastic way to help you to <b>learn a language<\/b>. You can <b>divert\u00edrte <\/b><i>(<\/i><b><i>enjoy yourself<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i> and <b>mejorar tu o\u00eddo <\/b><i>(<\/i><b><i>improve your listening skills<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i> at the same time \u2013 so let\u2019s have a look at some different musical styles from around the Spanish-speaking world, and end with some useful vocabulary.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"vc_custom_heading_wrap\"><div class=\"heading-text el-text\" ><h2 class=\"h4 text-accent-color\" ><span>El flamenco<\/span><\/h2><\/div><div class=\"clear\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"uncode_text_column\" ><p>Obviously, you must have heard of <b>el flamenco <\/b>as it\u2019s the most typical style of music and dance that people associate with Spain. Originating in <b>Andaluc\u00eda<\/b>, a region in the south of Spain, it is <b>un s\u00edmbolo <\/b><i>(<\/i><b><i>a symbol<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i> of Spanish culture to the outside world, despite the fact that it is only from one particular area.<\/p>\n<p>There are three main parts to <b>el flamenco <\/b>\u2013 <b>el cante <\/b><i>(<\/i><b><i>the singing element<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i>, <b>el toque <\/b><i>(<\/i><b><i>the guitar playing and percussion aspects<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i> and <b>el baile <\/b><i>(<\/i><b><i>the dance<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i>. Each of these elements are crucial in making the whole <b>flamenco<\/b> experience truly come to life. During the dance, the <b>bailaor\/a <\/b><i>(<\/i><b><i>flamenco dancer<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i> can be seen playing <b>unas casta\u00f1uelas <\/b><i>(<\/i><b><i>castanets<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i> \u2013 a typical Spanish percussion instrument held in the hands and clicked together to make a very distinctive sound.<i> <\/i>Many <b>bailaores\/as <\/b><i>(<\/i><b><i>flamenco dancers<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i> are <b>estrellas <\/b><i>(<\/i><b><i>stars<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i> in their own right, and we\u2019d definitely recommend you go to <b>un tablao <\/b><i>(<\/i><b><i>a flamenco venue<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i> in Madrid when you\u2019re here <a href=\"https:\/\/www.escuela-hablamos.com\/fr\/our-courses\/\"><b>studying Spanish<\/b><\/a> to see a full show. It\u2019s an amazing spectacle and you\u2019ll definitely leave feeling energised and wanting to see more!<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"vc_custom_heading_wrap\"><div class=\"heading-text el-text\" ><h2 class=\"h4 text-accent-color\" ><span>El reguet\u00f3n<\/span><\/h2><\/div><div class=\"clear\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"uncode_text_column\" ><p>You might have seen this type of music written as \u201creggaeton\u201d, and that spelling also gives you a bit more of a clue as to its origins. Developed in Puerto Rico in the early 1990s, <b>el reguet\u00f3n<\/b> is related to the world of reggae and hip-hop, as well as the more underground dancehall style.<\/p>\n<p>This style is all about rapped lyrics, danceable tunes and a more club feeling than other types of music we\u2019re talking about in this article. It\u2019s proven to be extremely popular with young people throughout the Spanish-speaking world and you\u2019ll hear it absolutely everywhere when you\u2019re <b>living in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.escuela-hablamos.com\/fr\/\">Madrid learning Spanish<\/a><\/b>. An early pioneer of the <b>g\u00e9nero <\/b><i>(<\/i><b><i>genre<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i> was Daddy Yankee, who you might well have heard of, and more recent stars include Bad Bunny and Karol G.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"vc_custom_heading_wrap\"><div class=\"heading-text el-text\" ><h2 class=\"h4 text-accent-color\" ><span>La bachata<\/span><\/h2><\/div><div class=\"clear\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"uncode_text_column\" ><p>You might not have heard of this one, but <b>la bachata<\/b> is a very popular style in Latin America which came from the <b>Rep\u00fablica Dominicana<\/b> <i>(<\/i><b><i>Dominican Republic<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i> and extended throughout the Spanish-speaking world. It\u2019s full of <b>ritmo <\/b><i>(<\/i><b><i>rhythm<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i> and life, and it also has its own set of dance moves. These are performed with <b>una pareja <\/b><i>(<\/i><b><i>a partner<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i> and the resulting dance is a sensual one \u2013 so perfect for if you\u2019re on the lookout for a romantic evening!<\/p>\n<p><b>La bachata<\/b> uses all sorts of instruments, from <b>guitarras <\/b><i>(<\/i><b><i>guitars<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i> to <b>el bongo <\/b><i>(<\/i><b><i>bongo drums<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i> and <b>saxofones <\/b><i>(<\/i><b><i>saxophones<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i> which combine together to create its unique sound. Recently, <b>la bachata<\/b> was declared as <b>Patrimonio de la Humanidad <\/b><i>(<\/i><b><i>Intangible culture of Humanity<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i> by UNESCO. When you\u2019re here in Madrid, there are plenty of clubs where you can hear this amazing style so make sure you take advantage of the opportunity!<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"vc_custom_heading_wrap\"><div class=\"heading-text el-text\" ><h2 class=\"h4 text-accent-color\" ><span>La salsa<\/span><\/h2><\/div><div class=\"clear\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"uncode_text_column\" ><p>Another typical musical genre which we\u2019re sure you\u2019ve heard of, <b>la salsa<\/b> is actually a fusion of Cuban and American dances which first became popular in New York in the late 1960s. There, immigrants from various Latin American countries developed the first salsa tracks, along with the typical dance routines which accompany this type of music. Nowadays, there are a variety of different styles, from New York, to Colombian, Puerto Rican and the original Cuban.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, the name <b>la salsa<\/b> is also the Spanish word for <b><i>sauce<\/i><\/b>, which quite accurately describes the mixture of cultures present in the music and dance moves of this genre. Like <b>la bachata<\/b>, the moves in <b>la salsa<\/b> are all about moving your <b>cadera <\/b><i>(<\/i><b><i>hips<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i> and <b>hombros <\/b><i>(<\/i><b><i>shoulders<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i> with lots of <b>giros <\/b><i>(<\/i><b><i>spins<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i> mixed in for good measure. There are lots of places in all Spanish-speaking countries where you can try out this dance style, and many clubs in Madrid have salsa evenings so you can learn the moves, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.escuela-hablamos.com\/fr\/online-spanish-conversation-classes\/\"><b>practise your Spanish<\/b><\/a> and have a great night too!<\/p>\n<p>And there you have four typical music and dance styles from the Spanish-speaking world.
